What to Say Wednesday: Don’t Minimize a Loss

What to say Wednesday 1Welcome to What to Say Wednesday (a little late in the day!)

Today’s tip is something to avoid saying to a mom or dad who has experienced loss.

Sometimes, in an effort to help the pain, people try to minimize the death of a baby.

Don’t ever say, “At least it wasn’t later on in the pregnancy.”

This can be very hurtful to a mom or dad. This was their baby. The baby they loved, cherished and wanted. Certainly the time of a loss makes what someone has to walk through very different. It means different pains and different griefs. It means completely different experiences. Yet no matter when it happens, it is still the loss of a precious baby.
